The Human Prenatal Development Unit provides a unique opportunity for students to explore human life from the moment of conception through the stages of prenatal development, engaging in hands-on lab work, critical thinking, and deep reflection.
Modeling the Miracle: Tracking Prenatal Development Over Time: The Modeling the Miracle activity spans the entire Human Prenatal Development Unit. Each week, students use data tables and graphs to analyze various aspects of prenatal development, including fetal mass and length, limb and organ development, and the chances of survival outside the womb. This experience condenses the 36-week normal human gestation period into four weeks, with model measurements taken at approximately weeks 7, 14, 21, and 28 weeks of development.
Four one-week Investigations (Includes both science and theology lesson plans and all required materials):
- Investigation 1 - Human Chromosomes
- Investigation 2 - Gamete Formation (Meiosis)
- Investigation 3 - Fetal Development
-
Investigation 4 - Fetal Development and Birth
